11/30/23: KOSA is an anti-LGBTQIA+ censorship bill. It is essential you call THIS week. Tell them you are specifically against KOSA and especially against hotlining the bill.

Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to the Senator of your choice.

Here is one that will send your reps a fax: https://resist.bot/

internet censorship bill about to pass congress:

ao3 is facing a ddos attack from an overseas right-wing anonymous group because it contains “degeneracy and disgusting things like LGBT and NSFW”.

they’re not the only right-wing group that is attacking fanfiction sites because of queer & nsfw content. the Heritage foundation, the US right wing think tank that writes laws for republicans, wrote an article about how “big tech turns kids trans” in which they’re advocating for the Kid’s Online Safety Act to pass because it will give state attorney generals power to sue websites for “potentially harmful content towards minors”. in this article they point out websites like wattpad, tumblr, tiktok, twitter as sites that GOP attorney generals can and will target for censorship if this bill passes. all places where fandom, that’s mostly queer, hangs out.

if you think this bill has no chance of passing because of all the red flags it poses, think again. it currently has 38 cosponsors in the senate, and is being pushed by the democrats as a “protecting the children!!” type bill.

there are left-aligned orgs in congress rn lobbying for this bill to pass. july is extremely decisive, because if KOSA goes through to markup it’ll be bundled with the Earn It act, Restrict, and all the other bad internet bills and passed as a package, completely censoring the internet forever.

if you want to learn more about the bill, go here. also sign the open letter against it here

it’s ESSENTIAL that you call your members of congress, specifically Maria Cantwell (you can call from out of state) and tell them DO NOT PASS KOSA. this site here connects you to your members of congress and gives you a short simple script to read off of! super easy and doesn’t take much out of your day! please do this now!!

The whole “trans women can’t get periods because they don’t have uteruses” terf rhetoric is almost funny to me knowing that male dogs can have false heats and false pregnancies when their bodies produce excess estrogen

to those wondering How someone without a uterus can have a period: it actually has very little to do with the organs!

Estrogen is a set of instructions that your body follows. when it’s in constant supply at the right levels, your body will start picking out a schedule for when it needs to release a few other hormones, and start squeezing the ever-loving shit out of the MUSCLES that it expects to be around those organs.

Remember, bleeding is only a small part of a period. the main symptoms are muscle cramps, pain or discomfort in the lower abdominal area(because of the cramps), irregular bowel movements(because of the cramps), needing to pee more(because of the cramps), bloating, craving specific foods, nausea, and fluctuations in energy levels & nutritional needs. none of that requires a uterus or ovaries; even the bloating is only PARTIALLY from being full of blood.

this is also why cis women born without functioning reproductive systems(i.e. womb is just scar tissue, neither ovary actually works, developed a third kidney instead of a uterus, that kind of thing) can still have periods throughout their life. as long as they’re producing lots of estrogen, it’s gonna happen!

I got worse period cramps for the first few months AFTER I got my hysterectomy.

You definitely don’t need a uterus to have a period because bodies and hormones are silly billies.

I feel like I should add this as well.

But I am a trans woman born with a uterus(because I am intersex)

And I very much do get periods, blood and all.

Literally every single part of the bullshit that terfs spew is just not true.

look the whole “don’t wear a bra ever!! it’s better if your breasts aren’t restricted!!! uwu be natural :) :) if you wear bras you’re probably going to get breast cancer actually” thing is great but have you considered. some of us dont have perky little B-cup boobs. some of us have enough boob that it is extremely uncomfortable to not wear a bra for pretty much any activity other than lounging/sleeping

I hate bras but if I have to run down some stairs without one the tits will flap up and knock me out like in an adult cartoon
